Assembly/Chapel

During the school year, distinguished guest speakers address the student body at the weekly chapels/assemblies. Registered students carrying six (6) or more credit hours are required to attend weekly chapel/assemblies on Thursday mornings from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Services are held at Oakwood University Church, unless otherwise stated. Departmental Chapels are held once per semester during regular chapel time, but at various locations selected by each Academic Department/School.

The purpose of Chapel is to provide weekly opportunities for the entire campus family to gather for a worship experience that brings together students, faculty, and staff through worship, reflection, discussion, and service.

Attendance is mandatory for all traditional, undergraduate students taking at least six (6) hours per semester. Exemption is granted based on the following criteria:

  • Seniors with 110+ cumulative hours, or in their final semester. Approved graduation applications must be sent to oslife@oakwood.edu within the first 2 weeks of the semester.

  • Students with off-campus class conflicts OR with work conflicts. Official documentation must be sent to oslife@oakwood.edu within the first 2 weeks of the semester.

  • Students with dependent children.
