This course introduces first-year students to the history of news reporting in the United States, press freedom and censorship. Principles of Associated Press (AP) Style writing is introduced. The students familiarize themselves with journalism’s role in a healthy democracy. Journalism students are strongly encouraged to take this course in the first semester of their freshman year. The course is open to non-majors and minors.
