This course is a study of rhetoric designed to teach students effective writing, reading, speaking, and listening. In <a href="/english/en-111l"><a href="/english/en-111l">EN 111</a></a>, emphasis is placed on critical thinking, and close study is given to expository and argumentative writing. In <a href="/english/en-112"><a href="/english/en-112"><a href="/english/en-112">EN 112</a></a></a>, students are introduced to writing about literature, methods of research using the library, the Internet, and digital resources, and to writing a research paper. A final essay is given at the end of semester in <a href="/english/en-111l"><a href="/english/en-111l">EN 111</a></a>. The required research paper for <a href="/english/en-112"><a href="/english/en-112"><a href="/english/en-112">EN 112</a></a></a> must receive at least a C+ (77). The requirements for <a href="/english/en-112"><a href="/english/en-112"><a href="/english/en-112">EN 112</a></a></a> may not be met by CLEP.
