Deferred Grades

A deferred grade (DG) is assigned when an instructor determines that instructional obstacles, not the student, are responsible for incomplete work. This may be the result of books or research materials arriving late, equipment failure, or insufficient time. The instructor will provide for each student a statement of outstanding requirements, including deadlines for their completion.

Deferred Grade (DG) Policy

A Deferred Grade (DG) will be converted to a regular grade once the coursework is completed within the approved deadline. This deadline may range from a few days to several weeks but must not extend beyond the sixth week of the following semester—regardless of whether the student is enrolled—except in the case of research courses. For research courses, the deadline for completion is the end of the following semester.

If the DG is not resolved within the prescribed time, it will automatically convert to a grade of “F.” Before the deadline expires, the instructor may request an extension by submitting a written, well-justified request to the academic dean.
