IS 120 Microcomputer Applications (CE): A student who provides satisfactory evidence of competence or prior exposure to the Microsoft Office applications covered in IS 120 may fulfill the academic requirement by passing the current certification exams for MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel. The following policies apply to this program: A minimum score of 700 for each of the three exams must be acquired before credit can be granted as determined by the testing company, Certiport. Changes in scores by Certiport may change Oakwood University’s acceptable scores.

Credit Awarded Without Grade: Acceptable certification scores on all three exams will earn course credit for IS 120. However, no letter grade will be assigned, quality points will be calculated.

Restriction on Repeating Course: Once Credit by Examination (CE) is recorded on the transcript, the student may not retake the course for a letter grade.

Retake Policy: If a student does not pass one or more of the three certification exams, no record will appear on the transcript. The exam(s) may be retaken after a six-week waiting period.

Transfer Certifications: Students who have earned Microsoft Office certifications for the applications taught in IS 120 at another institution must submit an official Microsoft Office Transcript to receive credit.

Fees: A non-refundable CE fee of $75 will be charged, in addition to a $30 fee per exam administered at Oakwood University.

Exam Administration: Microsoft Certification exams are administered by the IS 120 Course Coordinator within the Department of Business and Information Systems.

Exam Scheduling: Students must schedule exam times with the IS 120 Course Coordinator. All three exams must be completed within five days of the first scheduled appointment.

Preapproval Requirement: Students must complete and submit an Academic Request Form to the Registrar’s Office for preapproval before pursuing the Credit by Examination option.
