The Center for Student Success (CSS) exists to promote student learning and support degree completion by offering a wide range of programs, resources, and services. These initiatives are designed to foster academic and spiritual goal-setting, skill development, a smooth transition to and within the university, and the enhancement of critical thinking and decision-making skills. Located on the second floor of Cunningham Hall, CSS provides educational and empowering support services to all Oakwood University students. The Center offers academic resources that empower students to overcome challenges, develop self-efficacy, and gain a competitive edge in their academic journey. CSS offers a welcoming and supportive environment where all students are encouraged to thrive.
The CSS staff works collaboratively with faculty, university staff, alumni, and students to provide support throughout each phase of the academic journey. Services include academic advising, disability and testing services, tutoring, success workshops, classroom instruction, and the OU 101 Freshman Seminar. CSS labs offer targeted assistance for students with disabilities and provide reading and writing support. The Center also partners with the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science to assist students who struggle in math. Upper-level students and alumni offer additional tutoring for STEM majors. CSS collaborates with all academic departments to develop students who are critical thinkers prepared for success both at Oakwood and beyond.
