Purpose

The Career Connections | Student Employment Center provides a comprehensive, holistic, and integrated pathway to prepare Oakwood University students for success after graduation. Whether pursuing graduate or professional school, entering the workforce, launching a business, or engaging in community service, students receive support to thrive in their chosen endeavors.

Student Employment

The student employment period begins on the first official day of classes and ends two weeks after the last of final exams each semester. All employment during the fall and spring semesters is part-time.

Employment Eligibility

To qualify for student employment, students must:

  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher

  • Be academically and financially cleared for the semester

Note: Federal Work Study (FWS) positions are awarded by the Financial Aid Office.

Application Requirements

To be employed on campus, students must complete the following:

  • E-verification
  • NEOGov application via MyOakwook
  • Submission of Course and Fee Statement
  • Federal W-4 federal tax form
  • State A-4 state tax form
  • Payroll Deduction Authorization Form
  • Banking Information Form

General Guidelines

  • Students must be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours per semester

  • Student employment positions do not include fringe benefits

  • Students will not be paid for hours worked beyond the approved maximum hours or after the official employment period ends

  • Students and supervisors are responsible for monitoring work hours

  • Student workers are expected to:

    • Arrive on time and perform duties effectively

    • Notify supervisors in advance of absences due to illness or emergencies

  • Employment will be terminated for falsifying time records or upon official withdrawal from the university
